Preparing for Liposuction

Charlotte, Gastonia, and Shelby, NC

Once you have scheduled your liposuction procedure, your surgeon will meet with you in a pre-op appointment and provide you with instructions for the weeks and days leading up to the surgery.

Liposuction is usually an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will be released to return home in the same day as surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you home, and make sure someone like a spouse or family member can stay with you for 24 hours after the appointment. Make sure that you share any remaining concerns and questions about liposuction surgery with your surgeon.

Prior to liposuction, expect to:

  • Stop using tobacco products about three weeks prior.
  • Not consume alcohol about 24 hours before surgery.
  • Stop taking certain medications, including ibuprofen and aspirin.
  • Not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before liposuction.

You may also want to prepare your home for your return. You will need a week or two to recover, so do not plan to do any household chores after your surgery. Prepare and freeze meals so that you will not have to worry about cooking for yourself immediately after liposuction. You can also arrange music, movies and books ahead of time so that you can relax with some entertainment during recovery.
