Once you have scheduled your breast augmentation surgery, you will be provided with instructions regarding the weeks and days leading up to the procedure. You will schedule a pre-op appointment, in which you and your surgeon will finalize the type of breast implant to be used, as well as breast enhancement placement options. The pre-op appointment is an ideal time to have your remaining questions and concerns addressed, so be sure to voice them.

To prepare for surgery, stop using tobacco products and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and aspirin. Your breast surgeon will provide you with specific instructions at your pre-op appointment. Other ways to get ready for breast augmentation surgery include:

  • At home, stock up on foods that are easy on the stomach, and arrange music, movies and books to enjoy while you recover.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for the 24 hours following your breast augmentation.
  • The day of surgery, use antibacterial soap on the surgical area.
  • Do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the night before your breast augmentation.
  • To alleviate post-op discomfort, wear a loose fitting button-up blouse on your surgery day.
