Differences between Ultrasonic and Tumescent Liposuction
Charlotte, Gastonia, and Shelby, NC
Tumescent liposuction is a technique that uses anesthetic fluid to remove fat deposits in your body. Tumescent liposuction has become the standard liposuction procedure because using the fluid results in less post-operative pain, bruising and swelling, as well as a faster recovery time.
In comparison, ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses heat to liquefy fat cells prior to removal. Tumescent fluid is often used in this technique, followed by the insertion of a probe that emits ultrasonic energy. This method is relatively new compared to the tumescent technique.
At Southeastern Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, we offer only the tumescent liposuction technique. This method has a lengthy record of being safe and providing a fast recovery. Both techniques have their surgical advantages, but we choose to provide you with a technique that has been around since the 1980s.
Tumescent liposuction technology uses a fluid composed of lidocaine, epinephrine and saline to remove fatty tissue. “Tumescent” means firm and swollen, and that is exactly what happens to the fatty tissue. The fat plumps up and becomes firm, allowing the suctioning device to be easily moved through the tissue and causing less damage to surrounding blood vessels.
